Governance and Management of Quality Assurance in Further Education and Training in DDLETB
A project is currently underway to develop new structures, policies and procedures to manage the governance of quality assurance in line with the requirements of QQI’s new Core and Sectoral QA Guidelines. As new structures are developed and approved, they will be published here.
Current Structures for the Governance and Management of Quality Assurance
Current governance structures in DDLETB operate both at ETB level, and at centre level. DDLETB is governed by a Board comprising of 21 members, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DDLETB is ultimately responsible for the oversight of Further Education and Training and its quality assurance policies and procedures.
The Director of Further Education and Training (FET) reports to the CEO of the ETB and is responsible for the delivery of high quality and responsive FET provision and the governance and management of FET.
A FET management team consisting of the Director of FET, Further Education college and centre principals, training centre managers, adult education officers and the Youthreach Regional Coordinator, chaired by the CEO, meets regularly to review implementation of strategy and operational issues including quality assurance.
Responsibility for the governance and oversight of quality assured systems within FET programmes currently resides with the FET Quality Council. The Council consists of senior management representatives from all four services within the DDLETB FET provision. It is chaired by the FET Director, and reports to the DDLETB FET Management Team. The Quality Council has oversight of the quality of all FET Provision in DDLETB. It is supported in its role by two sub-groups, the Programmes Committee, which is responsible for the development and review of all DDLETB programmes and the Quality Assurance Committee which is responsible for the development and review of all QA policies and procedures. These sub-groups are in turn supported by working groups, such as the QA Development Project Group, the Programmes Development Project Group, and the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Group.
The Head of each centre/service reports directly to the FET Director.
